The Cohen Group Newsletter - Volume 5 Issue 2, Article 5, April 2003 Advisory Committee Updates Ergonomics The Ergonomics Advisory Committee will be held on April 28, just as Current Issues is going to print. The meeting is to be held as a result of a petition filed by the California Labor Federation. This Advisory Committee met in November and recommended possible revisions to the existing standard (§5110). Permits The Permits Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet in May. As previously reported, Cal/OSHA is hoping to establish permits for general contractors and those subcontractors that may perform permitted work, e.g., painting contractor that uses scaffolding over 36 feet will be required to obtain their own scaffolding permit even though they may not have erected the scaffold. Hearing Conservation for Construction and Agriculture An Advisory Committee met in May 2002 and January 2003 to review the Noise regulations in response to a petition requesting a hearing conservation program for construction and agriculture. It is likely this committee will follow Federal OSHAs lead on this same issue which remains under study. There is no scheduled meeting. Emergency Eyewash and Showers An Advisory Committee met and proposed changes to the Standards Board in 2002. A public hearing on the proposal is likely before the end of the year.
