The Cohen Group Newsletter - Volume 5 Issue 1, Article 3. January 2003 CLARIFICATION In a past issue of our newsletter (Vol. 4, Issue 2 - June 2002), a
statement was made in the article titled, Construction Projects at Hospitals and Health
Care Facilities, which may be misleading. It
was stated that the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
and California Office of Statewide Health and Planning Development (OSHPOD) had adopted
the American Institute of Architects (AIA) document Guidelines
for Design and Construction in Hospitals and Health Care Facilities. JCAHO and OSHOD, though they recognize and accept the AIA document, have not specifically adopted the Guidelines. JCAHO in their document titled, Environment of Care Standard (EC.3.2.1) recognizes the AIA Guidelines by reference for renovation or new construction projects. OSHPOD has referred to and accepts the Guidelines for construction projects and code change submittals, however the Guidelines have not superseded or replaced Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations. We also find that many construction projects are following these new guidelines. We apologize for any confusion and thank one of our readers for bringing this to our attention.
