Joel M. Cohen, MPH, CIH -
Joel is President of The Cohen Group, which he founded in 1980. Joel has
over 30 years of experience in the occupational health and safety field. He received his
BS from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and MPH in Environmental Health from the
University of Michigan. Joel is certified by the ABIH in the comprehensive practice of
industrial hygiene. He is also certified by the State of California, Division of
Occupational Safety and Health as a Certified Asbestos Consultant, holds all
accreditations for asbestos offered by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and
registered by State of California, Department of Toxic Substances Control as an
Environmental Assessor. Joel has sat on several Cal/OSHA Technical Advisory Committees.
Currently, he devotes most of this time serving as a consultant and expert witness to
attorneys involved in civil cases pertaining to negligence, adequacy of warnings and toxic
torts, Workers’ Compensation appeals and OSHA Appeals. He has authored or co-authored
four books on OSHA compliance and more than two dozen papers on exposure to hazardous
substances in occupational settings.
